The explorer in me had been craving for some French food when the name Rara avis came up during a discussion. So Moi decided to venture into this little piece of France in the
national capital avec my foodie partner in crime . The place is a tad difficult
to find in the busy GK 2 market. . Located on the 2nd floor they offer both indoor and alfresco seating .Indoors comprise of distressed woodwork furniture and is
comfortable. The tables sport some quirky mats. We preferred the alfresco
seating on the terrace since it was a sunny day.
The afternoon commenced with the espresso martini , which had the right amount of bitterness and kick. I tried the rara avis which is a spiced guava drink and was zingy .

I started my meal with Salad
De Chevre Chaud which included goat cheese on crouton and was served on a
base of crispy leaves. Next to arrive
was Croutes au morilles. The sauce incorporates port
wine with morels and the result is a creamy , heavenly treat. This dish is
highly recommended. How can a French meal not include snails? So we tried the
les escargots. This famous French appetizer arrived on an indented plate , the
snails were cooked in garlic and butter and were soft and tasty. Don’t
forget to soak up the remaining garlic butter with some baguette.
The filet minon de veau a la normande is piece of veal tenderloin cooked delicately in apple and cream sauce and is served with vegetables and buttered potatoes. The tarte au potiron et marrons was cheesy yet balanced due to the pumpkin and chestnut filling. The risotto du sous bois was creamy with the mushrooms adding just the right amount of bite. the French are famous for crepes and I wanted to try them at rara avis. The Crepes epinard gratinee,is a savoury crepe filled with spinach and topped with some melted cheese. It did culinary justice to the fame of this dish. The Flammenkueche which is a thin crust pizza can be made to order with toppings of your choice. We tried the vegetarian variety and were truly impressed.

For desserts we dug
into the Tiramisu, which balanced
the different flavours of cocoa, mascarpone and liquer delicately. The beaming
smile on my friend’s face spoke volumes about the taste of this dessert. I
tried marinade figues au porto ,
which were figs marinated in port wine and served with vanilla icecream. The
wine reduces to a thick syrup during the cooking process and lovingly coats the
figs. This results in a rich ,sinful ,
foodgasmic dessert .
Rara does an amazing
job in using high quality ingredients turning them into superlative dishes and
still managing to be affordable. So guys book your tables in advance and impress that special someone this valentine's day !
