Culture gully brings alive the essence of India, its
vastness, diversity, richness and most importantly food . You are transported
into a magnificent world the moment you step inside those ornate gates . Under the blue sky
(at all times) different kiosks depicting various states vie for attention. A new addition to this bustling
street is the sandwich bar and this is what merited a visit.
Unlike other places with live kitchens, the sandwich bar
offers a beautiful sitting area all done in jade green. Stuffing is what matters immensely in a
sandwich and lends character to the otherwise bland bread, it also has to be
moist and not soggy. First one to be
tried on the menu was the Mushroom Cheese
came with a spicy side of harissa sauce that complements the earthiness of
mushroom. Lending some Indian flavor to the firang staple was the
Paneer Bhurji sandwich served with a side of garlic yoghurt that balances the masaledaar bhurji.
Mumbai sandwich sadly did not live up to my expectation , I prefer
my potatoes sliced and devoid of any seasoning, but here’s its filled with a
spicy potato mash alongwith some vegetables. It’s counterpart is the spicy potato sandwich
which worked better for me and this comes with a side of pickled vegetables
that gave the right bite and also a bit of tang. Mumbaiyya Pav is stuffed with Paneer Tikkas to make a great snack and
this comes with hand blended hummus which is pulverized with a pestle in a mortar
the old school way and it definitely can’t get any better than this !
